I first heard of the Thera exercise machine for the less able while I was in France at a Clinic, I was exercising using the Thera Fit plus where I was shown how to use it by a physiotherapist. My feet were strapped in and the machine turned on. WOW, I was so impressed, this machine moved my legs as if I was doing it myself, it has different speeds and different tensions, so the machine just works your legs at whatever speed you set it at, or next to no tension so you can actively try and pedal yourself.
Well being a T12 paraplegic myself, I knew this was the answer for me, it is quite small, so it can be put away if needed. I called Medicotech when I got home, within a few days Shukri turned up with several machines for me to try, there are quite a few. Anyway I chose the "Thera Fit Plus" This was in 2002, and I still use it to this day. I still try and pedal it actively myself, sometimes & only sometimes it does make me spasm, but nothing happens, I turn the machine off and let the spasm pass then carry on.
I must say, well worth the money! The only thing I have had to do with it is change the batteries in the remote control unit, other than that, it's still as good as new... I love it, so does my Physio!
